Coke manufacturer “Delighted” with IPPC support received from ABB Eutech Process Solutions

ABB Eutech Process Solutions has recently provided full Integrated Pollution Prevention & Control (IPPC) support to Monckton Coke & Chemical Company (MCC) in Royston, Barnsley, to enable them to obtain a permit to operate under this regulation.

The ABB team were involved over a 10 month period, from the initial gap analysis, through preparation of the full report, submission and response to schedule 4 questions. “The regulator commented that the report was of a very high standard and very few schedule 4 questions were received,” said Mick Gore, Works Director at Monckton.

MCC, owned by UK Coal, produces coke at the Royston site and comprises coke production facilities, chemical by-product plant, biological effluent treatment and a state of the art Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant. Mr Gore also went on to say, “we did not have the resources to do the application and could not have done this job without the support of ABB Eutech.”

“The Environmental Hazard Review process used by ABB at the start of the job was extremely efficient and produced good quality results at minimum cost,” according to Mr Gore, “ABB used a very pragmatic method, all deadlines were achieved and the report was very professional.”
