2007-04-10 - ABB has announced the first winner of its High Performance van giveaway promotion. A delighted Andrew Shorrocks of electrical contractors AJS Darwen Ltd was handed the keys to a brand new Volkswagen Caddy van by James Haigh, General Manager, ABB low voltage products.
ABB has announced the first winner of its High Performance van giveaway promotion. A delighted Andrew Shorrocks of electrical contractors AJS Darwen Ltd was handed the keys to a brand new Volkswagen Caddy van by James Haigh, General Manager, ABB low voltage products.
Shorrocks won the van after purchasing some of ABB’s Housemaster Compact consumer units from electrical wholesaler Newey & Eyre in Blackburn. An entry to the draw was made for each of the units purchased.
Says Shorrocks: “I entered the draw earlier this year, but didn’t really think I’d win. Although the promotion gave me an extra reason to buy the Housemaster, I have to admit to being very impressed with the overall quality and flexibility of the product. It’s ideal for installation into small spaces and is very easy to work with.”

A second Volkswagen Caddy van is still up for grabs, with the next draw to take place in June 2007. For every Housemaster Compact consumer unit purchased, the buyer will get one free entry to the draw, with no limit on the number of entries per purchaser.
As well as the van, there are also five second prizes of £100 worth of high street vouchers and 25 third prizes of £10 high street vouchers still up for grabs.
Packed with a host of new features which make it ideal for both domestic and commercial new build and retrofit installations, the Housemaster Compact represents ABB’s arrival into the consumer unit market. It has a front sliding door which slides back into the unit housing, expanding the options of where the unit can be located. Additionally, the interior space of the Housemaster Compact provides extra space for cabling, created by reducing the size of internal components such as the MCBs.
The Housemaster Compact also offers a flexible split load that provides added protection and isolation capabilities. A main isolating switch feeds essential circuits such as lighting and other circuits are protected with residual current devices (RCD). Other devices can be assigned separate MCBs to protect against electrical faults without disrupting all the power distributed around the building. The Housemaster Compact can also accommodate non-standard configurations. It also has a fully shrouded busbar, making the unit easier and quicker to install, while also providing added protection when in operation.
