ABB demonstrates ‘total integration’ solutions for the offshore sector

Demonstrating how to integrate the total automation, telecommunications, electrical and power systems within an offshore environment and supporting it throughout its lifecycle, is the theme of ABB’s stand at the Offshore Europe show in Aberdeen, 4th to 7th September 2007

ABB will be demonstrating its systems, products and services for the oil and gas industry. Visitors will see an integrated display highlighting ABB’s many skills that it brings to the industry for both surface and sub-surface applications.

The centrepiece will be an extended operator control console that can be used for the entire range of control functions as well as the gathering and integration of management information to improve the efficiency and productivity of offshore facilities.

The operator workstation will be exhibited alongside ABB’s latest medium voltage drive offering and a new low voltage liquid cooled industrial drive, rated from 200 to 5600 kW (380 to 690 V).The liquid cooled drive provides reliable operation under extremely harsh conditions and its benefits include a totally enclosed cabinet - IP42 as standard, IP54 as option - silent operation and a compact size.

Instrumentation

Differential Pressure (DP) flow meters, which find widespread application within the oil and gas sector, are robust devices used to measure the rate of flow of a liquid or gas. The fluid is passed through a restriction - for example the hole in an orifice plate or the throat of a Venturi tube. By measuring the pressure difference across the restriction, the flowrate can be determined. Other products from ABB’s instrumentation range on display include a range of field devices for measuring temperature and pressure.

Propulsion Technology

ABB’s marine division will be on hand to discuss the Azipod propulsion system and other electric power and propulsion technology that have been supplied for over 50 years, giving it the longest experience and highest number of deliveries of any company in the world.

Engineering and consultancy

The stand will also highlight ABB’s extensive portfolio of engineering services. These include automation retrofit services such as management information systems, system & product specification and plant optimisation. Also on display will be the range of Project Solution Services available, from consultancy and project management through to engineering and construction management.

Service and support

To complete the portfolio, ABB will illustrate its full range of services from installation and commissioning through to after sales and full service support. ABB has extensive experience of working offshore to minimise risks to personnel, the environment and the plant; to help ensure maximum plant uptime; and to achieve minimum planned downtime by working closely with operators.
