ABB wins $150 million service contract in Finland

Agreement will help to optimize mill efficiency for paper maker Myllykoski

Zurich, Switzerland, September 27, 2006 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, said today it has received a contract from Myllykoski Paper Oy to assume responsibility for maintenance operations at the company’s mill in Anjalankoski, Finland. The ABB Full Service agreement is valued at more than $150 million.

The new performance-based agreement will help Myllykoski Paper to focus on its core competence of papermaking as ABB assumes responsibility for mill maintenance and productivity. The arrangement covers automation, electrical and mechanical maintenance and planning as well as material management at the mill, which produces some 500,000 tons of coated and uncoated papers annually. About 170 Myllykoski Paper employees will transfer to ABB.

“This agreement continues a recent series of milestone contracts for the ABB Full Service organization,” said Veli-Matti Reinikkala, head of ABB’s Process Automation division. “Our proven expertise is helping customers in a wide range of industries to increase productivity and reduce costs.”

The new contract complements more than 150 ABB Full Service relationships with customers in the paper, metals, mining, chemicals, oil and gas, telecommunications and other industries. ABB employs some 1,800 service personnel in Finland and more than 20,000 worldwide. The new service contract with Myllykoski Paper begins on January 1, 2007.

Myllykoski Paper Oy markets, develops and manufactures high-quality papers for magazines and advertising materials. The company currently employs about 800 people at its publication paper mill and reported net sales of 270 million euros in 2005. ABB has been a frequent supplier to the mill, providing services, electrification products, motors, drives and web imaging systems.
