RESIBLOC transformers provide 20 years of reliable operation

2013-08-19 - During a visit to the underground substation at the famous Stockholm’s Norrmalmstorg-Place, Martin Carlen, Global Product Manager Dry-type Transformers, discovered two 20 year old ABB RESIBLOC transformers in operation.

"Movable" entrance of the substation
Since 1993, two RESIBLOC transformers with a rating of 2000 kVA each have been in operation to support the electrical power supply for the city of Stockholm.

The transformers work in harsh climatic conditions. Even with rather low external temperatures, the temperature in the underground substation is at least 35°C. “The continuous operation of the two RESIBLOC transformers for 20 years shows the high quality standards and reliability of our transformers,” said Martin Carlen.

The substation is owned and operated by Fortum. Fortum's purpose is to create energy that improves life for present and future generations.
“We provide sustainable solutions that fulfill the needs for low emissions, resource efficiency and energy security, and deliver excellent value to the shareholders. Our activities cover the generation, distribution and sales of electricity and heat as well as related expert services,” said Lars Selberg, Manager Local Network Stockholm at Fortum Distribution.

Fortum's operations focus on the Nordic countries, Russia, Poland and the Baltics. Lars Selberg added: “We had 50 participants to the CIRED Technical visit in Stockholm June 14, that were very impressed by our secondary substation situated underground at Normalmstorg.”
