2007-11-06 - Mr Neil Kanagaratnam from Praxair Surface Technologies, a world leading company in surface coating technology explains the benefits of how utilising the ABB robot training courses has improved their own expertise thus delivering to their customers’ high class automation investments.
A specialist engineer in surface coating technology, he leads a team of engineers to apply coatings which are metallurgically acceptable to the customer using ABB robots to deliver consistent and repeatable coatings.
“All our robots are ABB and as our company is committed to continuous improvements in surface coating technology, there is a need to understand our robot programs more and to be able to deliver systems knowing the robots full potential. Since utilising the comprehensive training courses available I have been able to gain a better understanding of the programming methods,” comments Neil.
“ABB provides comprehensive levels of robot training from beginner to advance. I have been taking the relevant courses at ABB now for two years and have been able to apply new techniques into our programs allowing reductions in the programming time and part qualification time. The advanced training courses are ideal for people who have done a lot of programming on ABB Robots and have identified the gaps in their own knowledge and what to learn more programming codes,” adds Neil.
Neil continues, “The new programs I wrote after my advanced training was at a different level. One of the biggest gas turbine manufacturers has recognised the speed and accuracy we have achieved for them in such a short space of time. This first article qualification has given the manufacturer an avenue to expand their share of the industrial gas turbine coating business.”
“The various training courses I have attended on the ABB robots have been a worthwhile investment for my company. I now have the ability to implement a variety of new codes and techniques to improve our programming methods within Praxair, thus being able to offer the customer the full potential of their ABB Robot investment,” concludes Neil Kanagaratnam.
