ABB supports launch of Indonesia’s second largest airport

2018-03-26 - Kertajati International Airport is scheduled to open in mid 2018. ABB has been chosen as the leading technology partner, trusted to provide a reliable source of power

Recognized for its innovative technology, ABB has played a central role in the development of Kertajati International Airport.

Built on 1800 hectares of land, the airport will serve as a substitute for Husein Sastranegara International Airport in Bandung, and provide support to Soekarno Hatta Airport, which has become increasingly crowded.

As an international company engaged in leading technology, ABB was selected to install the latest systems and electrical technology across the Kertajati Airport terminal building.

Firmansyah Abidin, Sales Manager for Transport and Infrastructure in ABB Indonesia explains: “From LV to MV, through the application of System Pro E Power, switches and socket outlets, Furse earthing and lightning protection system and UniSec medium-voltage switchgear, this is a project that demands protection, accuracy and precision technology to ensure the terminal building operates well, without any fatal disruption.

"The electrical system at the airport is one of the most crucial aspects. If there is a power failure for just a few seconds, operational activities at the airport can be very disturbed. Flight schedules can be delayed and passengers can be left disappointed. To avoid such incidents, ABB has been trusted to ensure the safe and reliable aspects of the airport’s power supply."

System Pro E Power

Flexibility is one of the key resources. To ensure good operational implementation at Kertajati Airport, ABB will apply a number of its latest technological innovations. One of the most recent is the Pro E Power System, an electrical distribution system designed to make it easy to fill all the electrical installation requirements.

Alfando Lumbanraja, Sales Manager of Panel Builder, Consultant, Developer, Contractor and OEM expressed that in terms of flexibility, Pro E Power meets the design requirements of electrical systems for low-voltage distribution panels with the highest standard and safety. "This is the latest solution and innovation in accordance with international standards IEC 61439-1 and 2, laser-beam welded upright with 13 folds," Alfando said. “Pro E Power is the perfect blend of low-voltage ABB apparatus components, which makes the assembly process faster and safer.”

This system ensures a high level of protection, accurate separation of shapes, and safe electrical characteristics, in accordance with the latest international standards. System Pro E Power also synergizes perfectly with all ABB's low-voltage equipment. With this system, ABB ensures good airport operations, without any disruption due to electricity 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

A key factor in the decision to choose ABB to handle Kertajati Airport was the quality of its products and services. "Contractors and consultants who handle terminal buildings have long worked with ABB and believe in our market leading quality. Therefore we have again been selected to handle this airport project. ABB is always loyal and supportive to all consultants and contractors,” said Jorge Aguinaga, Head of Sales and Marketing, Electrification Products, ABB in Indonesia.

Eko Parjono, Site Manager at Mechanical Electrical PT PP (Persero) added: “Through cooperation with ABB, we ensure the best quality of electrical panels at Kertajati Airport. We work to the maximum to avoid any possibility of interference such as power failure. Representing PP, I am very grateful for this cooperation with ABB. Throughout the tasks, ABB has proven good work, especially regarding product quality, quick response, prompt follow-up, and its ability to meet tight procurement times.”

Installation in Kertajati is a strategic project for ABB and the company is currently tendering for the supply of electrical technology for the construction of a residential area called Aerocity, planned for construction within the airport complex.

"The Aerocity project will be larger than the airport project itself. Of course, we hope to work in the development, especially in aspects of the latest technology," said Firman reconfirming Kertajati as a strategic project.

Kertajati Airport is a project owned by West Java International Airport (PT BIJB). The project has appointed WIKA-PP KSO, a consortium of Joint Operations between PT Wijaya Karya and PT Pembangunan Perumahan (PP).
