Pipeline control
ABB centralized remote control, measuring devices, and communication links help carry oil through the Caspian pipeline from Kazakhstan’s Tengiz oil field on the Caspian Sea to Novorossiisk, Russia on the Black Sea, at half the cost of former transport by rail.

By mid-2006, the system will convert low-value chemicals like ethylene and butane to propylene, boosting propylene production by 122,000 tons per year to feed an increasing consumer appetite for polypropylene-based automobile bumpers, electronic circuits and DVDs.
