ABB kicks off national roadshows to showcase leading technologies and solutions in oil, gas and chemical industry

Beijing, March 22, 2016

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, today kicked off the national roadshows to exhibit its leading technologies and portfolio in oil, gas and chemical (OGC) industry, including control systems, measurement and analytics, electrical products, integrated telecom and safety systems. ABB will share its success cases with more than 1,000 customers and guests and exchange ideas about the transformation and future development of the industry.

China is now the second largest oil consumer and the biggest oil importer, as well as a major gas and chemical producer and consumer in the world. As a world leader in power and automation technologies, ABB has vigorously expanded cooperation with Chinese users and supported China’s OGC industry to move up the value chain and achieve sustainable development.

Dr. Chunyuan Gu, Chairman and President of ABB (China) Ltd. said: “Process industries such as oil and gas are among the high-growth segments as a focus of ABB’s Next Level strategy. We’re glad to see that the campaign makes our customers learn more about ABB’s portfolios, solutions and services across the whole value chains in the OGC industry. Through power and automation integration, we can help users lower cost and improve productivity, turn the market challenges into opportunities, so as to gain the upper hand in global competition.”

With 50 years of experience in oil and gas industry, ABB provides complete sets of power and automation products, systems and services to oil and gas value chain from exploration, production and transportation to refining and chemicals. ABB has a strong portfolio such as drives and motors, transformers, switchgears, substations, automation, safety, meters & instruments, analyzers, telecom, power management, high-voltage direct current transmission (HVDC) and high voltage cables, e-house and services. Meanwhile, ABB executes the industry’s toughest technical standards and enables customers to improve production reliability and efficiency. Through power and automation integration, ABB can help users cut cost by up to 20%.

Take 800xA automation system for instance. As a flagship of ABB distributed control systems (DCS), it integrates process, electrical, safety and telecoms into one system, enabling seamless collaboration among different departments, processes and equipments across a factory and thus helps customers optimize the design and performance of power and automation systems, improve asset utilization and enhance operation efficiency by lowering cost in maintenance, engineering and the whole life cycle. ABB has by far installed over 10,000 sets of 800xA systems in more than 100 countries, ranking the first by the DCS market share in the world’s upstream oil and gas industry.

Leveraging these leading technologies and solutions, ABB has worked closely with customers in the OGC industry and helped them achieve efficient and safe production. For example, ABB provided electrical products including high-efficient motors, drives and transformers for the 1,613-km-long Zhongwei-Guiyang gas pipeline project to support the energy transmission in western China. ABB provided a complete set of automation solutions and engineering services to Shale Gas Project in Jiaoshiba Block in Fuling, Chongqing to support China's first large-scale shale gas project to achieve efficient and smart production. ABB’s drives were applied in Phase II of the “Gas Transmission from Sichuan to Eastern China” project, ensuring the long-distance pipeline transmission of gas in China. ABB also provided reliable medium and low-voltage switchgears and gas-insulated switchgears for Phase II of the Huizhou refining project of China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), to help build it into an important petrochemical project in China and even the whole world.

Meanwhile, ABB fully supports Chinese enterprises to go global and cooperates with them in overseas projects through its advanced technologies and global footprint advantages. ABB has by far participated in project construction initiated by China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec), China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) and other petrochemical enterprises in a dozen of countries and regions across Asia, Middle East and Africa.

  • In Singapore, ABB provided a one-stop electrification solution to the first overseas plant of Sinopec’s refinery segment— the lubricant grease production base, helping Sinopec take a solid step towards its global deployment;
  • In Kazakhstan, ABB provided advanced control system and electrical products to CNPC’s EPC projects such as the Kazakhstan-China gas pipeline and Sinopec’s local projects like the crude oil processing project at the Atyrau Refinery, ensuring reliable and efficient operation of the projects;
  • In Iraq, ABB provided the SCADA monitoring and data collection system, power management system and electrical equipment to the oilfield power plant project contracted by CNPC, helping the latter tap Middle East and West Asia markets.

Following Beijing as the first stop of the roadshows, ABB will launch exhibitions in Tianjin, Nanjing and Shanghai respectively, showcasing its leading technologies, solutions and services in OGC industry to local customers and partners through show visit and seminars.

ABB is a leading global technology company in power and automation that enables utility, industry, and transport & infrastructure customers to improve their performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in roughly 100 countries and employs about 135,000 people.
