ABB introduces Dodge® metal detectable end covers that keep both food and workers safe

2016-04-12 - Greenville,S.C. – Engineered for Dodge washdown mounted ball bearings, the patent pending end covers create a safer working environment by covering exposed, rotating shafts and can be detected if they accidentally fall into food.

Traditional end covers that protect workers from moving parts are not practical under strict food industry guidelines because plastic pieces are not detectable if they fall into food. Dodge metal detectable end covers are designed to keep workers safe, without compromising food quality.

The end covers are constructed of a durable, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) material containing stainless steel particles. This material allows the end covers to be detected by x-ray equipment and metal detectors used in food processing facilities. This ensures that if any piece of the cover falls into food, it will be found.

“We developed this new product in response to customer requests for real washdown solutions,” explains Mac Duke, Product Manager for Dodge mounted ball bearings. “The visible blue color also enables quick inspection and the snap on style makes it easy to install and provides a secure and rigid fit to withstand high-pressure washdowns that are typical in food and beverage facilities.”

Specifically designed for the food and beverage industries, Dodge metal detectable end covers include a drain hole to prevent moisture from collecting inside the cover, and provide positive sealing in wet environments. Metal detectable end covers are available for all Dodge Ultra Kleen® and E-Z Kleen® washdown mounted ball bearings from 20 mm to 50 mm bore sizes.
