ABB Power Technology Seminar, Nicon Hilton Abuja Nigeria - 12th May 2005

Some 160 people from different power utilities and industries in Nigeria attended the 'ABB Power Technology seminar' at The Nicon Hilton Congress Hall Abuja, on May 12th.

In attendance were Chairmen, Managing Directors, Executive personnel of various Power and Energy companies as well as ABB staff. Also present was the Minister of the Swedish Embassy Mr. Eric Backman. The program kicked off with a welcome speech made by the Chairman of ABB Nigeria, Otunba Tade Ismail who also was present all through the seminar.

The seminar was in two sessions. The first one, Substation Automation products was presented by Bertil J Lundqvist and Jan Skogeby. The presentation covered a family of products in the field of Protection, Control and monitoring, also highlighting their economic benefit in modern substation network.

The second segment had Cesar Pallete and Hannu Ruokolainen presenting High Voltage products. To improve the availability of power during thunderstorms, a demonstration on the advantage of transmission Line arresters was carried out. Other high voltage products presented to the seminar participants include Instrument Transformers, Capacitors, Circuit Breakers and Configurable Switchgear.

Delegates share ideas during coffee break.Julius Kwame Kpekpena of The Electricity Corporation of Ghana and Samuel Kweku Forson of NESSTRA (ABB's agent in Ghana) were in attendance as well as representatives of some other countries.

Skogeby's stay in Nigeria from May 9th -13th included meetings with ABB Abuja, NEPA HQ Abuja and in Lagos with the contractor EMO Africa Limited and their director Slobodan Bajkovic with whom he had fruitful business discussions.

The Seminar started at about 10am and ended at 4pm with positive responses from the delegates.
