ABB Australia staff give from the heart to help victims of Victoria's bushfires

2009-04-27 - ABB Australia staff donated a total of $39,526.65 to The Salvation Army, Victorian bushfires appeal. With the company matching the generosity of staff, a massive $79,053.30 was sent on its way to help the victims of Black Saturday's devastating bushfires.

"I was very confident that the ABB team would rise to the challenge, but this is truly inspiring," said ABB Australia CEO, John Gaskell. "I feel great pride that I am part of a company full of such thoughtful and selfless individuals. I am happy to announce that with ABB matching the generosity of staff, we have donated a sum of $79 053.30 to help those affected by the bushfires."

Employees showed their support through individual donations as well as through pledges from social clubs from various ABB sites and even 'hats' were passed around some factories.

The Salvation Army launched the appeal to assist those affected by the bushfires and has raised over $11.4 million. Not only will the donations assist the victims of the bushfires, but The Salvation Army also supports the Country Fire Authority, State Emergency Services and other members of the emergency response teams that battled the flames, such as providing more than 12,000 meals to our bushfire heroes at Whittlesea.
