ABB wins US$ 215-million power plant order in U.K.

Zurich, Switzerland, April 6 – ABB has been awarded a turnkey contract to build and maintain a 400-megawatt combined-cycle power plant in the U.K. The order was placed by an independent power producer, South Coast Power Limited, a joint venture of Scottish Power PLC and CSW International Inc. The total value of the contract is about US$ 215 million. The plant will be located at Shoreham on the south coast of England, west of Brighton. Commercial operation is planned to begin in the fourth quarter of 2000.

ABB will equip the plant with its sequential combustion GT26 gas turbine technology and supply the steam turbine, electrical generator and the control system. ABB will be responsible for engineering, procurement and construction of the plant as well as maintaining it for six years.

The GT24/GT26 gas turbines combine very high reliability and overall energy efficiency with low emissions, making them especially attractive to private power producers who must meet increasingly strict reliability, profitability and environmental performance targets. Shoreham is ABB’s 4th combined-cycle plant utilizing the GT26 technology in the deregulated U.K. power market.

ABB <> is a global engineering and technology company serving customers in power generation, transmission, and distribution; automation; oil, gas, and petrochemicals; industrial products and contracting; and financial services.
