ABB strengthens its Environmental Advisory Board

ABB makes two new appointments and enlarges Board to eight members

Zurich, Switzerland, April 2, 1998 - ABB, the international electrical engineering company, strengthens its Environmental Advisory Board and announces the appointment of two additional members, namely:-

David T. Buzzelli - Senior consultant and director of The Dow Chemical Company
José Goldemberg - Professor at the University of Sâo Paulo
The ABB Environmental Advisory Board was established in 1992 with the role of advising ABB’s management on environmental matters and monitoring ABB’s environmental performance. With these new appointments, the Board is now made up of seven external members and Göran Lindahl, President and CEO of the ABB Group, as chairman. Its eight members come from six different countries, bringing ABB the benefit of a wide spread of international views and expertise on environmental issues.
David Buzzelli is a senior consultant to The Dow Chemical Company and a member of its Board of Directors where he serves as chair of the Public Interest Committee and a member of the Environment, Health & Safety Committee. He is also a member of the World Resources Institute board, the International Institute for Sustainable Development board, the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development, the Princeton University Environment Institute Advisory Committee, and President Clinton’s Council on Sustainable Development of which he was previously co-chairman.
José Goldemberg is a Full Professor and former Rector of the University of Sâo Paulo. Previously President of the Energy Company of the State of Sâo Paulo, he has served as Minister of State of Education, Secretary of State for Science and Technology, and Secretary of State for the Environment in the Federal Government of Brazil. In 1991 he was co-winner of the Mitchell prize for Sustainable Development - USA. He is also the author of many papers and books on Nuclear Physics, Environment and Energy.

Martin W. Holdgate - whose previous positions included:- Director General of IUCN - The World Conservation Union, Chief Environment Scientist at UK’s Department of the Environment, President of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Council
Ken F. McCready - corporate director and independent consultant focusing on sustainable energy development, former CEO of TransAlta Utilities - Canada’s largest investor-owned electric utility recognized for sustainable development leadership
Ingar Palmlund - Associate Professor (Technology and Social Change) at Linköping University, Sweden, and Research Associate to The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, USA, producer of ‘Human Environment’ newsletter’
Ulrich Steger - Professor of Environmental Management at IMD, Switzerland, Director of the Research Institute for Environmental Management and Business Administration, Oestrich-Winkel, Germany, previously Hessian Minister of Economics and Technology
Björn Stigson - President of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, member of the EBRD Environmental Advisory Board, and the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development
