ABB Segment Head appointed CEO of Kvaerner

Zürich, 28 October, 1998 - Kjell E. Almskog, a member of the Group Executive Committee of ABB and the Head of ABB’s Oil, Gas and Petrochemicals segment, is leaving ABB to become President and Chief Executive Officer of Kvaerner, the Anglo-Norwegian engineering and construction group.

ABB President and CEO Göran Lindahl said he had agreed to release Kjell Almskog for his new post after discussions with Christian Bjelland, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kvaerner, considering the personal challenge of this move for Kjell Almskog as well as the importance of the appointment to Kvaerner.
A successor to Kjell Almskog as head of the Oil, Gas and Petrochemicals segment will be nominated before the Norwegian executive takes up his new post on January 1, 1999, Göran Lindahl added.
Kjell Almskog (57) was appointed Executive Vice President of ABB and a member of the ABB Group Executive Committee on September 1, 1998, when the business area he headed was made a segment in a strategic realignment aimed at strengthening ABB’s focus on growth markets. (End)
