June 10, 2002. ABB IndustrialIT is being implemented at Akzo Nobel Base Chemicals in Botlek, Benelux. ABB will provide IndustrialIT for Enhanced Terminal Operations technology along with related services for the Centralization of Ship and Car Loading (CeSCaLo).

The project will include terminal automation for four truck loading bays, two train unloading bays, two ship loading bays and one ship unloading bay. ABB's integrated solution includes ControlIT controllers (AC800M), S800 I/O modules, OperateIT Process Portal A, and Terminal Management Automation & Control (T-MAC). Related services also included in this project range from design, hardware engineering, implementation, training, installation on-site and on-site assistance.

The contract was awarded to ABB out of six competitors. Mister B.Sc. A.J. van Kooten, responsible for the CeSCalo project on behalf of Akzo Nobel, stated: “ABB offered Akzo Nobel the best value for the money, the required knowledge to do the job, and also enabled Akzo Nobel the flexibility to operate the terminal within their own parameters.”

T-MAC, ABB’s terminal management system, will handle all the terminal activities in a safe, secure and
well-documented manner based on the state-of-the-art ABB IndustrialIT platform. Efficient management of terminals and improved usage of storage facilities are essential to move product throughout the enterprise.
T-MAC will manage product receipt, storage and dispatch and will integrate easily within the business systems. T-MAC is integrated with ABB’s OperateIT platform supplying T-MAC with process operator functionality and engineering environment. The Aspect Object™ concept provides the engineers with a powerful toolbox saving valuable time and effort during the whole lifecycle of the system. Single entry of data and object-oriented workflow improves the effectiveness of the entire system.
