ABB puts new emphasis on global key account management and appoints four new country managers

Michael Pohr, Country Manager Germany, appointed to new corporate function for global key account management to strengthen ABB’s global sales efforts.

New country managers appointed for Germany, Czech Republic, Malaysia and Turkey


ABB, the international electrical engineering company, today announced a series of senior appointments including the following changes affecting country management positions:-

  • Michael Pohr, presently Country Manager Germany, has been appointed to a new corporate function for Global Key Account Management at the Group’s Zürich headquarters. As Senior Vice President, he will be working out of the President’s Office for the Executive Committee Members concerned. Pohr will be responsible for coordinating and developing the global key account concept, introduced in ABB in the last few years to expand the Group’s business with large international corporations by providing them with a well defined, senior management interface with ABB. The appointment forms an important part of ABB’s strategy to strengthen its global sales efforts.
  • Horst Dietz, a German citizen, presently Country Manager Korea, has been appointed as the new Country Manager Germany to succeed Michael Pohr. Dietz joined the ABB Group in 1987 as President of BBC’s switchgear manufacturer Calor Emag AG in Germany. He took up his present position as Country Manager Korea in January 1993.
  • Zubir Zainal Abidin, a Malaysian citizen, presently Company President for the Power Transmission and Distribution organization in ABB Malaysia, has been appointed as the new Country Manager Malaysia. Zainal joined ABB Malaysia in 1989 as Power Division Manager. After serving several years as Company President ABB Power in Malaysia, he took up his present position as head of ABB’s Power Transmission & Distribution activities in Malaysia in January 1994. Zainal succeeds Bo Waern who after nine years as Country Manager Malaysia will take up a position as Regional Segment Manager Power Transmission & Distribution for the Asia Pacific Region, based in the regional headquarters in Hong Kong.
  • Alfred Barth, a Swiss citizen, presently Vice President at ABB Europe in Brussels, working in project development for the Power Transmission & Distribution Segment, has been appointed as the new Country Manager Turkey. Barth joined the ABB Group in 1989 as President of ABB Process Automation AG in Switzerland and took up his present position in Brussels in 1994. Barth succeeds Anders Ericsson who after ten years as Country Manager Turkey will retire from this position.
  • Frank Duggan, an Irish citizen, presently Segment Manager for Power Transmission & Distribution in ABB Poland, has been appointed as the new Country Manager Czech Republic. Duggan joined the ABB Group in Sweden (Asea) before taking up a position with Asea Ireland in 1985. In 1991 he moved to Thailand as President of ABB Distribution Ltd and in early 1996 he transferred to Poland to take up his present position. Duggan replaces Erik Fougner who after four years as Country Manager Czech Republic will return to Norway to take responsibility for business development in the management team of the ABB global Business Area Oil, Gas and Petrochemicals.

The new appointments are to be implemented shortly in accordance with timetables set by the local organizations concerned.
