2014-06-30 - ABB is expanding its offering for engine and genset manufacturers with HV (high voltage) generators covering powers up to 4.8 MVA. Delivering the same high reliability and low cost of ownership as ABB’s proven high power generators, the new standard products are compact in size and easy to install. ABB’s globally identical manufacturing processes ensure high quality and short delivery times, no matter where the customer is located.
ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, is launching new high voltage synchronous generators in frame size 560. Covering the power range 1.6 to 4.8 MVA at voltages from 3.3 to 13.8 kV, the new generators incorporate a number of professional features designed to meet the specific needs of the mid-range market segment.
Gensets often have to cope with changing and non-linear loads, and the new generators meet these challenges with an innovative built-in PMG (permanent magnet generator) excitation unit. Professional PMG excitation comes as standard and provides excellent short-circuit, overload and motor starting capabilities. The generators also feature a rigid, salient pole rotor construction for reliable operation even under very demanding load conditions.
The new design features a high degree of integration, which makes the generators compact and easy to install, and helps to save installation time and cost. The terminal unit is integrated into the top of the generator and accommodates the main and auxiliary terminals and the AVR (automatic voltage regulator). There is ample space for easy installation of cables, transformers and the AVR itself.
Available options include ABB’s cutting-edge digital AVR, which not only offers power factor regulation, voltage matching and limiters, but also eliminates the need for external synchronization or diode monitoring units. This extra built-in functionality saves on space, cabling and installation work.
