ABB wins US$ 13 million power products order in China

Power equipment will strengthen power supply

Zurich, Switzerland, November 17, 2003 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, said today that it has won a US$ 13 million order from Shandong Luneng Material and Goods M&G Group in China to deliver transformers, breakers and other power products to 500 kV substations in the Shandong province.

The substations are key to plans by the Shandong Power Group to link the Shandong and North China power grids, as part of the country's moves to inter-connect all its regional and provincial electric power networks. Upon completion in June 2004, it will improve the reliability of the Shandong and North China networks, helping them meet the increasing power demand in the regions.

Under the terms of contract, ABB will supply two sets of 750 MVA/500kV power transformers, one set of 500 kV shunt reactors with neutral point reactor, 41 units of outdoor gas insulated breakers with voltage levels ranging from 35 kV to 500 kV, two sets of busbar protection system and ten sets of power line carrier communications equipment.

The power transformers, high-voltage breakers, protection and telecommunications systems will be manufactured by ABB High Voltage Switchgear Co. Ltd., Beijing, ABB Chongqing Transformers Co. Ltd. and ABB (Shanghai) Engineering Co. Ltd. respectively.

Prior to this order, ABB High Voltage Switchgear Co. Ltd., Beijing and ABB Chongqing Transformers Co. Ltd. supplied 750 units of breakers with voltage levels ranging from 110 kV to 500 kV and two sets of 500 kV power transformers to other power projects in Shandong.
