Building up a Software Community

The first ABB Software User Meeting took place in Auburn Hills, USA March 28.

About 50 software users joined the meeting together with ABB’s local software experts from the North American markets. The meeting started up with an optional training day where the participants got basic product training.

“The software user meeting is a great opportunity for all to meet and share knowledge,” says Bertil Thorvaldsson, Product Manager ABB.

ABB Product Managers informed about new features in the latest versions of the products and got valuable feed-back from the participants.

ABB also had the pleasure to present three customer guest-speakers.
Jeff Petersen from Crenlo was one of them. Mr. Petersen shared his long experience from working with RobotStudio offline programming:
“I enjoy the conference. Meeting people that works with the same tasks as I do is very useful”, says Jeff.

Jeff More from Benteler held a presentation where he talked about his experience from installing and working with WebWare for backup of robot programs at the automotive supplier plant.

One of the products that created a lot of interest during the meeting was Robot Application Builder.
Jim Dare from Braintech, a Vision-Guided Robotics solution company, told the listeners about how they are going to use Robot Application Builder to create a user interface to their vision system on the ABB FlexPendant.

After the Break-Out sessions when the participants could visit in-depth product sessions with ABB product experts and learn how to get the most out of their software investment a factory tour at the ABB Auburn Hills facilities took place.

The meeting ended with a visit at the Walter P. Chrysler Museum where the software users could enjoy a guided tour among old and new car treasures and was rounded up with a common dinner event.

The software dialogue will continue on the ABB Robotics Software Support Forum and planning for a European Software User Meeting this autumn have already started.
