ABB showcases industrial digitalization solutions at PulPaper 2018

ABB will present its smart digital factory for the future, as well as the ABB Ability™ service concept at PulPaper, the leading international event in the forest industry, in Helsinki later this month.

Helsinki, Finland, May 24, 2018: ABB Ability™ is a digital portfolio that combines all ABB digital products and services on the same platform. The ABB Ability™ cloud service platform helps customers to enhance performance by providing data to identify, categorize, and prioritize actions 24/7. This improves quality and performance. What is new about the solution is that the analytics created by the devices no longer need to be analyzed by the device itself. Instead, the data is stored in the cloud, making it quickly and easily available.

Digitalization is a major opportunity for developing processes, productivity and competitiveness. The overall view of the devices that is presented by ABB Ability™ also helps to optimize maintenance, making it possible to move from reactive behavior towards more proactive maintenance.

“Monitoring the condition of equipment is also important for usability. When a customer is wondering whether the revision interval could be stretched to two years, for example, it’s important to know the condition of the devices so that better-informed decisions can be made. Until now, decisions have been made mainly on the basis of the manufacturer’s instructions and the customer’s own experience,” explains ABB Finland Sales Director Esa Kivioja.

“Despite the ongoing development of digitalization, human interactions are still needed. If there are conditions in a customer’s processes that cause electrical equipment to “misbehave,” remote monitoring can’t pinpoint the precise cause of the problem. We also need information directly from the customers themselves, since they can see behind the processes,” Kivioja says.

PulPaper 2018 will be held at Messukeskus fair center in Helsinki from May 29 to May 31. ABB’s exhibit will be at stand 6a50, and showcase its range of solutions for the pulp and paper industry, which are brought together on the ABB Ability™ service platform. Also, for the duration of the fair, two ABB trucks will be stationed outside the center. These are part of ABB’s spring tour, and showcase lifecycle services and measuring devices.
