ABB received its recognition in the “CSR – Good Company Ranking” awards for 2008 in “Manager Magazin” in cooperation with the Responsible Business Forum and the PricewaterhouseCoopers consulting company.
The company received a score of 153 out of a maximum of 180 for its performance in five categories: strategy, relations with clients, business partners, employees and social engagement. ABB finished just behind the French company Danone in the rankings. ABB also finished top of the “production” category.
CSR is 'a must'
“Corporate Social Responsibility is a standard in the ABB Group, and is a must when it comes to maintaining relations with all stakeholders of the company,” said Mirek Gryszka, ABB country manager.
The result recognizes ABB’s efforts and performance on a range of issues such as ethical business, energy efficient solutions and community activities. In particular, the Group Code of Conduct was singled out as a document which sets high standards for cooperation with clients and contractors.
Heat and energy savings
The Group’s two-year programme to reduce energy use by five percent per manufactured unit was also successfully embraced in Poland. Despite a significant increase in production, ABB in Poland achieved electrical energy savings of 12 percent and heat energy savings of 16 percent.
For several years, the company has supported a social program for underprivileged young people in Przasnysz near the ABB medium- and high voltage products factory, some 100 kilometers north of Warsaw. A number of educational projects are on offer for the youngsters, including learning about the use of electric energy.
At a recent meeting with parents, Waldemar Trochimiuk, mayor of Przasnysz, said: “The project "Our city with ABB" is a model of cooperation of different stakeholders' groups of our society in Przasnysz.
"All activities that have been undertaken by ABB so far, engaging teachers, pupils and their parents, as well as other local companies, show that in our city it's possible to combine learning and working together with development of personal skills," he added. "Overcoming the language barriers thanks to ABB gives young people the opportunity to find their place in the global market. Such projects are worth imitation."
