ABB is introducing a brand new product series: Relion® 620 – the big brother of the best-selling 615 series. The 620 series consists of protection and control IEDs designed for the protection, control, measurement and supervision of network components in utility and industrial power distribution systems. Today, the 620 series fulfills the requirements for feeder, motor and transformer applications.
Both 615 and 620 product series are characterized by their compact and withdrawable-unit design. They have been designed to unleash the full potential of the IEC 61850 standard for communication and interoperability of substation automation devices. The major difference is in the functional scalability and flexibility of the 620 series.
As a member of the Relion family, the 620 series shares the same Human Machine Interface (HMI) look and feel as the other Relion IEDs. The location of a push button with a certain function is always the same and the menu structure identical.
Extensive communication capability, together with full support for communication redundancy with 0-delay PRP and HSR, is one of the common features in the 615 and 620 series. Redundancy can bridge areas where a possible failure of a critical communication component results in network disturbance and downtime.
