ABB joins hands Chinese companies to go overseas

Helps Sinopec build lubricant grease production base in Singapore, its first independent overseas investment project

Global footprint provides uniform products, technologies, and engineering services for Chinese enterprises

Beijing, Aug.30, 2012 – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced that it will provide a one-stop electrification solution for Sinopec’s lubricant grease production base in Singapore. The project is located in southwest Singapore and is the first overseas plant project for Sinopec’s refinery segment, marking the first step of Sinopec to go abroad. The move also signifies Sinopec’s efforts to bolster the sustainable development of its overseas investment business. With its leading technologies and global footprint, ABB is going all-out to support Chinese enterprises to go overseas.

According to the contract, the ABB electrification business unit will provide Sinopec with power supply system solutions, including core system equipment such as 22kV gas-insulated medium-voltage switchgear, dry-type transformers, low-voltage switchgear, a data collection system, and relatedservices. ABB will leverage its global footprint to collaborate with ABB Singapore to satisfy the special requirements of local power supply authorities. ABB’s project management effectively controls the full project process from pre-sales consultation to final inspection and acceptance, reducing project execution risks and shortening the construction cycle. The final result is that ABB can ensure the project’s efficient operation with lower risk level in a bid to bring the maximum commercial return for the customer’s investment.

The ABB electrification business unit boasts long and extensive management experience and engineering expertise in electrical projects around the world, covering the industries of pulp and paper, mining, petroleum and petrochemical, steel and nonferrous metal, and power station. It has worked with Chinese enterprises to successfully execute comprehensive projects such as the OT Copper-gold Mine in Mongolia, the Sino-Australia Iron Ore Mine, Jindong Paper in Jiangsu, the Bao Steel Billet Plant, and the State Grid Tugou Intelligent Transformer Substation. ABB’s well-known domestic and overseas customers include Sinopec, China National Offshore Oil Corporation, China Petroleum Corporation, Aviation Industry Corporation of China, Cosco, State Grid, Bao Steel, BASF, APP, P&G, and the China Merchants Bank, etc..

The Sinopec project will produce 80,000 tons yearly and have an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons. Sinopec is taking advantage of Singapore’s unique position as an oil product trading hub to boost the development of its international lubricant business. Upon its completion, the production base will become an important part of Sinopec’s lubricant business in Asia Pacific, as well as a production center, service center, and logistics center for its customers in the area. The base will utilize the brand effect of the Sinopec lubricant business in the international market and intensify its influence in the overseas market. For this reason, the group will accelerate the construction of the platform for its globalized production and operation, build a uniform supply and service platform for bunker oil, and complete the transformation from selling products to the export of its technology and brand.
