ATEX is an acronym for ATmosphere EXplosive. Entrelec by ABB manufactures many of their standard terminal blocks under the ATEX directives. These terminal blocks undergo rigorous testing to comply with the ATEX 95 European directive 94/9/EC for use in the mining and surface industries that may experience potentially explosive conditions. Under this directive, the ATEX terminal block is categorized as a "Component".
