    ABB Soimi SpA becomes ABB Lummus Global SpA

    BLOOMFIELD, N.J., February 7, 2001 – ABB announced that ABB Soimi SpA is now a part of ABB Lummus Global’s European operations, and has changed its name to ABB Lummus Global SpA.

    ABB Lummus Global SpA, headquartered in Milan, Italy, is an engineering and construction company serving the oil, gas and petrochemical industries, ranging from engineering, procurement and construction services for upstream gas treatment and oil processing plants to downstream plant construction. The company also specializes in compressor stations, modular plants, and mobile production facilities, as well as modification and maintenance services, with its main activities in Italy, North and West Africa, and Central Asia.
    It is currently involved in several turnkey projects including the Obiafu-Obrikom gas plant for NAOC (a joint venture of Agip and NNPC) in Nigeria; the Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex for National Corporation Uzbekneftegas in Uzbekistan; a compressor station for Sonatrach in Algeria; and a mobile production facility for SPDC (a joint venture of Shell and NNPC) in Nigeria; as well as multi-year global service contracts for AGIP Recherches Congo in Congo and for api Refinery in Italy.
    ABB Lummus Global SpA’s existing market position will be strengthened through access to ABB Lummus Global’s proprietary technology and worldwide systems and tools.
    ABB's worldwide oil, gas and petrochemicals business activities include the companies ABB Lummus Global, ABB Offshore Systems, and ABB Vetco Gray. The business focuses on the development and supply of offshore production installations, refineries and petrochemical plants worldwide. Approximately 10,000 people are employed in these activities, with revenues in excess of 3 billion USD. The ABB Group of Zurich, Switzerland employs about 160,000 people in more than 100 countries.
