ABB/WESCO Program Will Cut Transformer Delivery Time By 75 Percent

Raleigh, N.C., May 31, 2000 - ABB Power T&D Company Inc. and WESCO Distribution Inc. have implemented a joint National Transformer Stocking Program (NSP) designed to cut delivery time of popular ABB transformers by more than 75 percent.

“The program will make a variety of ABB single-phase pole and pad-style transformers readily available to customers across the country through WESCO’s national utility network,” says Bruce Baumann, ABB Vice President, Corporate Marketing. “This program is similar to the extremely successful ABB/WESCO three-phase pad-mounted transformer program. This program supplements local stocking of these same styles, allowing increased local stocking of special styles needed for specific territory requirements or blanket contracts.”

Inventory, located in Athens, Ga., consists of 30 styles of single-phase and pole-mounted transformers representing approximately 700 units, including ABB’s revolutionary Composite Hood single-phase padmount. Every U.S. WESCO branch serving the utility market has immediate access to this inventory.

“Lead times on distribution transformers increase dramatically during the spring and summer building seasons,” explains Russ Reynolds, WESCO Utility Director of Materials Management and Procurement. “Unexpected projects, high temperatures and storms can quickly deplete a utility’s available inventory. Formerly, a utility had to either keep a large inventory on hand or be forced to delay projects. With the new program, utilities anywhere in the country can have transformers delivered in a matter of days, even during the peak season when deliveries are usually measured in weeks or even months, assuring their customers of dependable electrical service.”
