Biotechnology

From biofuel to biogas

Biotechnology uses biological processes to make useful products. Production may be carried out by using intact organisms or by using natural substances from organisms. Biofuel is produced from renewable resources, especially plant biomass, vegetable oils, or treated municipal and industrial wastes.

Many biofuel and biogas technologies are being jump-started through government incentives, but in the long run they must be able to stand on their own economically. To be both made from renewable resources and financially viable, the process must be sustainable in all respects as well as a net contributor to the reduction of CO2 emissions. As a technology partner, ABB drives innovations to meet the technical demands for:

  • Bioethanol plants
  • Biodiesel plants
  • Biogas plants

ABB offers solutions for expansion and grassroots projects based on advanced technology that provides for future extension. We also have the corresponding competence in solving project management and time-to-market challenges.
