The FlexGun is a servo controlled spot welding gun. It is integrated into the robot as a 7th axis offering improved welding quality and cycle time performance.
Traditionally complete welding guns needed to be kept as spares in case of a failure during production. The FlexGun is a module design consisting of one standard gun body which can be combined with standard or specific arms, for either X or C/J guns. This concept allows the same gun body to be used in many different welding applications in a given body shop. The benefit to the customer is the commonality of spare parts between many guns.
Using a common platform also simplifies engineering during line development, programming, tuning of the welding guns. The gun path can be programmed offline in Robot Studio which reduces the total commissioning time.
The patented design utilizes unique parallel arm movement which enhances the rigidity of the arms to guarantee the process quality. The gun is designed to be simple and easy to maintain, while also robust. It is completely protect from the harsh operating environment.
