The ABB Geo Grippers are rigid geometrically stable grippers made from standardized components.
This allows welding of a part to be carried out while the part is being held in the robot gripper without needing to drop the part into a geometry fixture, thus reducing the cycle time. This also reducing the financial investment of additional fixed tooling, and floor space.
ABB’s standardized component library reduced engineering design time, decreased manufacturing time and makes assembly faster.
By using Geo-Gripper concept, it allows the customer to add a new model to the existing assembly line with less influence to the production line. The robot would simply picking up a different Geo-gripper for the new model.
There are also benefits to the customer during the lifetime of the tool such as the ability to adjust the tool after its initial design or repair to damage by simply replacing the broken component.
Each component in the library has been validated and ensure the stiffness. All Geo Grippers are compatible with tool changes to enhance the future flexibility of the solution.
