At a television studio, the employees were unhappy with the ventilation at their work place. In particular, they complained about draught and temperature fluctuations. Also the sensitive computer, telecom and audio equipment suffered from varying temperature and humidity. But the major disadvantage was the high energy consumption caused by over-dimensioned motors running at constant speed.
To improve the air conditioning system, a single frequency converter was installed to control the inlet and exhaust fans. The frequency converter controls the speed of the fan motors and in this way keeps the inlet air flow equal to the exhaust flow. Working conditions were improved and energy savings achieved with automatically controlled variable speed drives. A 50 % reduction in energy costs resulted in a speedy return on investment.
