Extruder

Plastic Extruder

Operational reliability function and consistent product quality solved by an ABB industrial drive

In the process, the extrusion screw compresses the plastic powder up to 200 bar/mm2. At the same time, the screw mixes the powder and admixtures together, so that the plastic gets its final composition. The process heats the powder to a temperature of 180 °C before it goes to the forming die. The drive therefore needs to produce high torque at a relatively low speed. The speed accuracy also needs to be very high. That’s why the ABB industrial drive was a successful choice for this kind of application.

Industrial drive is the first AC drive which can produce enough high torque with sufficient speed accuracy in the extruder process. The users have also been very satisfied with the ABB industrial drive's control interfaces. Satisfaction with the control possibilities of the process has increased.
