Always a key event for the marine industry, the 2012, or 25th
, SMM broke many new records for participation. More than 2,000 exhibitors from 60 countries showed high-tech products and technologies for the shipbuilding, supply, and maritime industries across over 90,000 square meters at the trade fair grounds. Attendance was so high that a new tent, B8, had to be erected to accommodate over 50,000 guests. Some 30 exhibitor groups showcased new developments, networked and connected with international business partners.
The top issues covered at this year’s SMM revolved around preparing wisely for the future to ensure the well-being and contribution of the maritime industry and community. ABB Turbocharging’s decision to unveil its new A200-L generation of turbochargers went right to the heart of the key topics and concerns being discussed throughout the SMM, such as environmental protection, fuel efficiency and financial concerns. The benefits of the A200-L’s greater volume flow and higher pressure ratio were immediately clear and received with great enthusiasm by our business partners. ABB also presented its Toolkit as part of a change to its service policy in response to marine customers who need to be able to service ships en route because they cannot do so during port stays.
Our two-story exhibition stand was thus well frequented and abuzz with discussions about new opportunities for business, the current market situation, and even new orders.
We are very pleased at the very positive reception of our stand and the new A200-L at this year’s SMM and look forward to continuing those conversations at upcoming events both in 2012 and 2013.
