All types of Stressometer rolls have a number of unique features:
- Extreme reliability - time between roll revamps are typically 20 years
- Supreme accuracy - normally around 0.5 I-units
- Insensitive to mill disturbance
- Four measurements per roll revolution - from 0.5 up to 4000 rev/min, which enable immediate flatness control
- Long term stability - the sensors will not change sensitivity over time, thus eliminating the need for calibration on site
- The entire strip force on the roll is measured - no force is lost to the roll core

To get the shortest possible time response from the system while maintaining the accuracy, it is vital to get as many measurement points per meter strip as possible. For a 313 mm roll the Stressometer can measure up to 260 measurement points per meter strip.
Furthermore, it is important that all coherent measurement points are processed in parallel i.e. at the same time. This means that strip tension variations will influence all measurement points in the same way and will not influence the actual flatness measurement.
