Cylmate is monitoring your diesel engine continuously 24/7. That gives you the opportunity to monitor the power distribution between the cylinders and thereby minimize the risk of running the engine outside normal range.
Cylmate is monitoring your diesel engine continuously 24/7. That gives you the possibility to eliminate all reactive maintenance. Any change in the combustion parameters will be notified and presented in a clear way. One important action in order to reduce the risk for mechanical and thermal overload is to keep the engine in good balance by assuring that the power distribution is equal between the cylinders. Normally, the engine is tuned by adjusting the maximum combustion pressure (Pmax) to equal values, but that will not eliminate the risk for thermal overload. Even if the Pmax values of the cylinders are close to each other and the shaft power meter indicates expected brake power value, the indicated power of individual cylinders can differ. In the worst case, one cylinder can generate much more power than the other cylinders. The consequence is that the cylinder in question is running outside the normal range. It can be difficult to see from the pressure/alfa-picture (above) that cylinder 6 has a higher MIP value than the other cylinders. In the picture (right), the upper graph shows the MIP deviation, and the lower graph shows the Pmax deviation. The picture illustrates that indicated power could be too high in a cylinder in spite of the fact that the Pmax deviations are within normal range. In fact, cylinder 6 is running with thermal overload.
