IED Connect

IED Connect provides a consistent way of managing the interaction between ABB’s protection and control IEDs (Intelligent Electronic Device), systems and software tools. It also simplifies system engineering and reduces the risk of errors in the system integration.

Today the IED Connect concept consists of IED specific IED Connectivity Packages that contain a complete description of a specific IED, consisting of data signals, parameters, addresses and user documentation. In system engineering it enables automatic configuration of the signal data based on the information provided by the connectivity package. This allows efficient integration of the IEDs into ABB’s MicroSCADA Pro automation system and COM600 station automation products.

Easy upgrades
The IED Connectivity Packages give access to the latest functionality in the IEDs. When new functionality becomes available for an IED, you can upgrade your IED by downloading a new software version. To take advantage of the new functionality you simply need to install the corresponding IED Connectivity Package while e.g. the IED tool PCM600*) remains unchanged.

When a new version of the PCM600 tool or system products are introduced, the IED Connectivity Package you already have installed automatically gives you access to the new functionality.

The IED Connectivity Packages are based on the international IEC 61850 standard and its XML based modeling language, Substation Configuration description Language (SCL). All promoted ABB protection and control IEDs support the IED Connect concept. The IED Connectivity packages are delivered free-of-charge.
