The fully numerical decentralized station protection REB500sys combines busbar- and breaker failure protection with integrated line- and transformer protection incl. station monitoring.
REB500sys is designed for the high-speed and selective protection of MV, HV and EHV busbar installations at a rated frequency of 50 and 60 Hz. The capacity is sufficient for up to 60 feeders (bay units) and a total of 32 busbar zones and it covers the protection and monitoring of the whole substation, i.e. busbars, line and transformer feeders.
The station protection REB500sys is foreseen for all single or double busbar configurations. Triple busbars configurations are also possible, but require some attention regarding the I/O configuration. In 1½ breaker configurations, the bay level functions autoreclosure and synchrocheck bring significant advantages.
The REB500sys detects all bus faults in solidly and low resistive-grounded power systems, all kind of phase faults in ungrounded and compensated power systems as well as feeder faults in solidly, low resistive-grounded, compensated and ungrounded power systems. The protection operates selectively for all faults inside the zone of protection and remains reliably stable for all faults outside the zone of protection.
REB500sys is perfectly suited for retrofit concepts and stepwise upgrades. The bay unit can be used as a stand-alone unit for bay protection functions (e.g. line protection, autoreclosure, synchrocheck or transformer protection). The central unit can be added at a later stage for full busbar and breaker failure protection functionality.
REB500sys applications
Depending on the voltage level and protection philosophy, the following protection concepts are frequently encountered:
- Main 1 and main 2 protection devices per feeder and one busbar protection
The REB500sys station protection enables this protection concept to be simplified, thanks to a higher degree of functional integration. By replacing one of the two main protection devices, the same level of substation protection is maintained whilst cost and space of an extra device are saved and the costs over the complete life cycle are reduced.
- One main protection device and a back-up protection per feeder, no busbar protection
For this situation in the future, REB500sys enables the availability of your energy supply to be increased by additional busbar and breaker failure protection in substations where this was not possible up to now for economical reasons.
- In retrofit projects
The protection scheme is enhanced and comprehensive monitoring added
Main features:
- Combined busbar- and breaker failure protection with integrated line or transformer protection incl. station monitoring
- De-central & modular architecture
- All measurements such as current, voltage, busbar zone differential currents, etc. are displayed centrally for status monitoring
- Integrated event - and disturbance recorder supports a quick analysis of fault situations of the complete substation
- Integration into substation automation / monitoring systems (IEC61850-8-1 / LON / IEC60870-5-103)
- All applications are covered by a common PC-based configuration and setting program.
Customer benefits:
- Improved availability of energy supply
- Significant reduction of project execution time, installation and life – cycle cost due to higher integration of functionality
- The protection concepts with REB500sys are simpler and provide at the same time an increase in security
- Fast fault isolation and clearance to prevent cascading trips and keep the power losses small
- Avoiding heavy damages of primary and secondary equipment
- The system is more uniform due to the reduction in the number and type of devices.
- The monitoring of breaker and isolator positions, transducers and of the REB500sys itself permits a reduction in periodic maintenance work, but nevertheless provides an immediate recognition of failures
