ABB's IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) gate drive is designed according to customer specifications.
The IGBT gate drive controls large IGBTs in high power converters for traction and stationary applications up to 2500V and 1200A and more. Optical fibers are used to send the command signal to the gate driver and to transmit the status feedback.
An internal integrated transformer (100V AC, 25kHz) electrically isolates the supply from the output (high voltage).
The saturation voltage is monitored during the on-state. In case of desaturation the IGBT is turned off softly. The IGBT gate driver output is short circuit proof.
