Switches

System 800xA is a distributed system. The availability of the system depends on the availability of the distributed function and the redundancy applied. Communication has a key role in the distributed system and it is of outmost importance that disturbances in the communication network can be identified and attended by return.

The suppliers of switches have improved the supervision functionality of their products to make fault tracing easier and to inform the users as early as possible, in order to avoid that smaller problem develop into major disturbances in the system. In many systems fans and power supplies are redundant. It is therefore important that alarms are generated so that the problems can be fixed and full operational security can be re-established.

PC, Network and Software Monitoring (PNSM) is one of the functions for supervision of switches in 800xA. PNSM utilizes the supplier supervison functionality in the switches. PNSM accesses a few signals in the management software via SNMP and WMI cyclically. To achieve detailed information from the switches, the web interface is opened as a web link form 800xA.

Supported switches are listed in linked document.
