The System 800xA contains a comprehensive set of efficient system tools and system functions to be used throughout the entire system lifecycle:
- System Installer
- Diagnostics

System Installer
The System Installer is a collection of tools to ease the planning, installation, and post installation of the 800xA System. The System Installer:
- Specifies system details: Plans the desired system configuration.
- Configures the Windows Operating System.
- Verifies the Base System: Controls if hardware and software requirements are fulfilled, and installs missing software.
- Installs the Industrial IT 800xA System software.
- Configures the Industrial IT 800xA System software: Performs a post installation of the installed 800xA System software.
- Configures Windows Services settings.
- Generates a System Report: Provides a comprehensive installation report.
Diagnostics
The System 800xA contains a comprehensive set of efficient diagnostic tools to gather and present system status from different system levels during troubleshooting, operation or maintenance:
- ABB Diagnostics Collection Tool (DCT), used to collect diagnostics information from nodes in the system, primarily for support and trouble shooting purposes
- System Status Viewer, shows health status for 800xA system hardware and software, primarily for operator, production supervisors and maintenance engineers
- PC, Network and Software Monitoring, for monitoring of standard PCs and network equipments
- Asset Monitoring, shows health of process equipments and field devices
Licensing
The System 800xA supports an outstanding licensing technique, which makes it possible to create flexible and cost-efficient System 800xA solutions for all types of applications and system configurations.
The 800xA Licensing model is based on floating licenses, which allows e.g. operators and engineers to work from any node to access all data in the system.
Security
Security has become a major concern for Industrial Control System owner\operators.
ABB understands the need for our customers to maintain a secure, reliable, control environment with minimal time and effort expended.
In addition to the security features provided in the 800xA System, such as access control, user authentication, and Audit Trail capability, ABB is actively participating on all major control implementation of "defense in depth" security measures, stringent software update policies and strictly enforced standards will significantly mitigate security risks.
These practices are designed to increase the integrity, availability and confidentiality of all system functions and help ABB customers take pro-active steps to mitigate the risk of unauthorized control system access.
