OVERVIEW
Independent High Integrity is ABB’s SIL3‑certified safety system designed for applications requiring complete separation from the control system.
Engineered using Control Builder Safe, it provides a dedicated, TÜV‑certified environment to design and manage safety functions. The system operates independently but connects easily to ABB or third‑party DCSs, PLCs and HMIs making it ideal for retrofits, multi‑vendor plants, or any project needing a separate safety layer.
CONTROL BUILDER SAFE
Control Builder Safe is the TÜV-certified engineering environment used to create, test and maintain safety applications for the Independent High Integrity safety system.
Used together with AC 800M High Integrity controllers, it provides a complete SIL3-certified safety platform for implementing emergency shutdown, burner management, fire and gas, and other critical safety functions.
Based on familiar engineering workflows, Control Builder Safe enables engineers to design safety logic, configure hardware, validate applications and manage lifecycle changes within a dedicated safety environment. The resulting applications are executed on AC 800M High Integrity controllers, delivering reliable, deterministic responses when hazardous conditions occur.
Designed for independent operation, the system can be deployed separately from the control layer while maintaining seamless connectivity to ABB and third-party DCS, PLC and HMI platforms. This provides a flexible approach to process safety in new installations, retrofits and multi-vendor environments.
