Contractors should verify specific utility requirements for their service area.
A meter socket (also called a meter base or meter mounting device) is an electrical enclosure that houses and connects the utility company's electric meter to your building's electrical service. The meter serves as the interface between the utility's power supply lines and your property's electrical system, allowing the utility to measure and monitor your electricity consumption.
Yes, Microlectric offers meter socket solutions for residential and light commercial applications. Multi-position meter sockets are ideal for multi-unit residential buildings, commercial facilities, and mixed-use developments. Products are engineered to meet the demanding requirements of utility companies and electrical contractors across all application types.
Microlectric products are manufactured to rigorous quality standards as part of ABB Installation Products division. Every meter socket undergoes comprehensive testing to ensure compliance with CSA and UL standards. The brand's focus on quality control and manufacturing precision has made Microlectric a trusted name for over 50 years.
Microlectric Electric Vehicle Energy Management Systems (EVEMS) provide intelligent load management for EV charging installations. EVEMS integrates with existing electrical infrastructure to optimize available power capacity, preventing grid overload while maximizing charging availability. This technology helps building owners add EV charging without costly electrical service upgrades.
Our EM series EVEMS are brand agnostic. This means they are compatible with most Level 2 EV chargers in the
market and electrical panels. However, it is important to have your electrical infrastructure evaluated by a qualified electrical professional installing the product.
The EM series EVEMS is installed between the house`s electrical panel and the EV charger. Typically, next to the
electrical panel. However, our products feature enclosures that allow them to be installed outdoors in cases
where the installation requires it.
Signs that your meter socket may need replacement include visible corrosion or rust on the enclosure, loose or damaged jaw terminals that don't hold the meter securely, burn marks or melted components indicating overheating, water intrusion or moisture inside the socket, cracked or damaged housing, or if you're upgrading your electrical service capacity. Meter sockets typically last 20-30 years, but exposure to weather and environmental conditions can shorten their lifespan. If you notice any of these issues, contact a licensed electrician for inspection and replacement.
