PROVEN PROTECTION SINCE THE LATE 1980S

Originally developed by Thomas & Betts in the late 1980s, Shrink-Kon heat-shrinkable tubing has been proven over years of service to the industry, now continuing its legacy as part of ABB Installation Products.

The Shrink-Kon brand established itself as a trusted solution for protecting electrical connections from moisture, corrosion, and environmental damage. Its field-proven reliability earned widespread adoption across industrial, commercial, and utility applications throughout North America, Latin America and elsewhere.

When Thomas & Betts became part of ABB (pre-2012), Shrink-Kon joined a comprehensive portfolio of electrical connection and protection solutions. Today, ABB continues the brand's tradition of quality and innovation, maintaining the same rigorous standards that made Shrink-Kon an industry staple for over three decades.

SIMPLE HEAT APPLICATION, PROFESSIONAL RESULTS

Shrink-Kon products use cross-linked polyolefin technology that shrinks to one-third its original diameter when heated, creating a tight, moisture-proof seal. A standard heat gun or torch activates the material, making installation fast and straightforward for any skill level.

The 3:1 shrink ratio accommodates a wide range of wire sizes—from 22 AWG to 1000 kcmil—with a single product size. UL 486D listing qualifies Shrink-Kon for direct burial applications, while flame-retardant construction and resistance to chemicals, UV, and abrasion ensure long-term performance in demanding environments.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Shrink-Kon tubing protects electrical wire connections, splices, and terminals from moisture, corrosion, and environmental damage. It creates a watertight seal around connections in industrial, commercial, utility, and residential applications. UL 486D listing qualifies it for direct burial installations where connections are underground.

Slide the tubing over the connection before making the splice or termination. Complete the electrical connection, then position the tubing to cover the bare conductor. Apply heat evenly using a standard heat gun or propane torch until the tubing shrinks tightly and the adhesive sealant flows, creating a moisture-proof seal.

Yes, Shrink-Kon heat-shrinkable products carry UL 486D listing, which qualifies them for direct burial applications. The cross-linked polyolefin construction with moisture-sealing adhesive provides long-term protection for underground electrical connections, resisting moisture intrusion, soil chemicals, and physical stress.
