Light + Building 2024 throwback

Looking back at Light+Building 2024, where improved interoperability, efficiency and livability were showcased, we are demonstrating the diverse possibilities of technological innovation for new and existing buildings.

Interoperability

By embracing open systems technology and industry collaboration, we can unlock progress towards better connectivity. Partnerships between like-minded companies are key to addressing this challenge.

Innovative home connectivity standards such as Matter and Thread, supported by major platforms, enable open interconnection between previously separated systems. Interoperability and interconnectivity make it easier for smart homes to function in harmony, providing a seamless and comfortable experience for occupants.

Efficiency

We’re reimagining functionality, making our products smarter, smaller, and more efficient.

By introducing modular installation concepts we’re able to increase flexibility and compatibility to save time, space, and stock.

Our InSite energy management system is one example of a very scalable and customizable setup. Consisting of modular components, like energy meters, current sensors, communication modules, and accessories that enable remote monitoring and control of energy being used in a building, energy savings of up to 40 percent can be achieved depending on the operating conditions.

Another example is FlexLine®, the new range of modular protection devices, the Designplus Award winner by Light + Building with push-in technology that allows to save up to 50 percent of installation time.

Livability

In a world where technology seamlessly integrates with our daily lives, ABB Trevion® redefines how we interact with our living spaces. Say goodbye to clunky switches and hello to a sleek, minimalist design that adjusts lighting, temperature, and blinds effortlessly – just swiping through your app. Whether you’re a tech enthusiast or simply appreciate seamless living, ABB Trevion® is your gateway to a smarter, more connected home.

At the same time, the next-generation versions of ABB’s door entry systems have an evolved design, simplified system architecture and enhanced connectivity that allow for seamless control of every entrance and cater external, internal, and remote monitoring needs of your home, all managed remotely via a single app.

Empowering the future

In our quest for a low-carbon future, reimagining how we live and power our buildings is paramount. For ABB, the goal is clear: at least 80% of our products will meet the circularity KPIs we’ve set. Collaborating closely with customers and partners, we’ll leverage cutting-edge technical innovations to drive efficiency and fast-track our path to net zero.

As part of our journey to sustainable design, we’re putting circularity at the heart of product development. Busch-art linear® switch series is a prime example—crafted from recycled materials, it’s a beacon of resource conservation. And then there’s SAGA™ range, made from bio-circular, recyclable material. Its birthplace? ABB’s Mission to Zero™ site in Porvoo, Finland, with net-zero operations.

Another example of environmentally virtuous innovation is given by the new S300P miniature circuit breaker – the first MCB in our EcoSolutions™ program through power loss reduction by 25 percent, enhanced recyclability rate at the end of life, and fewer materials used – while providing top-notch protection.
