As a workspace where architectural designs are created, Archice's office in Hanza Tower in Szczecin, Poland, also functions as a live showroom. To enhance the visitors’ experience and showcase the latest in building automation, the studio needed a modern solution.

Beyond Basic Automation

Creating the ideal ambiance with expansive windows, active computers, and bright lights demanded more than basic thermostats and dimmable lights.

As architects and designers, we see automation not just for its functionality but also for its aesthetic appeal. By working with advanced control panels and sensors, we’re able to envision automation from an end-user perspective,” explains Krzysztof Stepniewski, Chief Financial Officer at Archice.

Efficiency and Safety Built In

To bring their vision to life, Archice collaborated with systems integrator FUTYMA Systemy Inteligentne. Together, they designed a sophisticated lighting setup enhanced by ABB's KNX and DALI systems. This integration allowed for seamless control and automation throughout the office.

  • Smart Integration: The ABB i-bus® KNX system integrates motion detectors and temperature sensors for automated adjustments in each room, complemented by touch screens and smart switches for easy control.
  • Creating a comfortable environment: Automated curtains, ventilation and metering systems eliminate the need for manual adjustments in the often-overheated conference room.
  • Central Control Hub: The glass-enclosed ComfortLine cabinet serves as both a visual centerpiece and an electrical control hub, featuring protection devices like Miniature Circuit Breakers, Residual Current Devices, Arc Fault Detection Devices, and the KNX system.

Growing Awareness of Automation

With recent fluctuations in energy prices, awareness of automation technology is on the rise among commercial building owners and tenants. “Financial savings and security are top concerns for building users,” notes Mateusz Malag, Sales and Marketing Specialist at ABB Electrification’s Smart Buildings Division in Poland. He emphasizes the complexity of projects like Archice’s, which are tailored to each building's unique needs, making the integrator’s role, supported by the equipment manufacturer, essential to success.

The Future of Automation in Architecture

Archice is not stopping here. The studio plans to make automation solutions a standard feature in all future architectural projects. “Automation brings us practical benefits,” explains Stepniewski. “It’s noticeable both in the office’s comfort levels and our energy bills.”

As Archice continues to innovate and push the boundaries of design, their commitment to integrating advanced automation technology will undoubtedly set a new standard in the architectural landscape. The transformation of their office into a dynamic showroom is just the beginning of a journey towards smarter, more efficient spaces that prioritize both comfort and sustainability.

In conclusion, the collaboration between Archice and ABB exemplifies how modern automation can enhance not only the functionality of a workspace but also its aesthetic appeal, paving the way for a future where comfort and energy efficiency go hand in hand.
