The Future of Energy Management is Here
As businesses face increasing pressure to optimize energy usage, meet stringent regulations, and embrace sustainability, cutting-edge solutions are no longer optional - they're essential. In the Netherlands, the Dutch Energy Act is pushing real estate owners to rethink energy efficiency, and ABB, in collaboration with installer Verkerk, is leading the charge. Through the implementation of ABB’s InSite energy management system, Verkerk is empowering businesses with real-time insights and automation, transforming the way they monitor and control their energy consumption.
With smart data visualization and seamless integration into Building Management Systems (BMS), this partnership is redefining energy efficiency in commercial real estate. But how exactly does it work, and what makes it a game-changer? Let’s dive into the details.
Real-Time Data for Smarter Decisions
Understanding energy flow is key to making informed efficiency decisions. Verkerk’s Building Technologies division sought an advanced energy monitoring solution that could provide real-time insights tailored to their clients’ evolving needs. ABB’s InSite system proved to be the ideal choice.
“The ultra-compact InSite system allows us to monitor energy flows across various installations, providing deep insights into energy consumption,” explains Jan van de Maat, Product Specialist for Smart Energy Solutions at ABB. “With real-time data visualization, businesses can track exactly how much energy is being used - whether it's a single cup of coffee being brewed or the entire building’s HVAC system.”
Verkerk first tested ABB’s InSite system on its own premises, ensuring seamless integration before rolling it out to clients. “A major advantage is that the system can be installed on existing cables without downtime,” says Wim Stemmer, Manager of Technologies at Verkerk. “This means businesses can enhance their energy management without major disruptions or costly infrastructure changes.”
Customized Real Estate Insights with ‘Humble’
ABB and Verkerk took energy monitoring one step further by integrating the InSite system with “Humble,” an advanced online platform designed to give businesses complete oversight of their real estate assets. This integration allows companies to access real-time energy data alongside property management tools, such as activity planning, ticket management, and compliance checklists.
Using ABB’s branch monitoring sensors, Verkerk ensures that energy usage data from key motor groups and circuit breakers is seamlessly transmitted to the Humble cloud platform. The result? Businesses can monitor solar panel production, track power consumption, and opt
Tailored Solutions for Maximum Impact
No two businesses are the same, and neither are their energy management needs. That’s why ABB and Verkerk focus on customization, ensuring that every client gets the insights that matter most to them. Whether a company wants to track heat regulation, power usage, or sustainability benchmarks, the InSite system can be adapted to their specific requirements.
“The ability to tailor data visualization is crucial,” says Stemmer. “By continuously engaging with our customers, we ensure that they receive meaningful insights that drive real change. The energy transition isn’t just about compliance - it’s about creating smarter, more sustainable buildings for the future.”
