ABB’s Smart Buildings Division announced a strategic collaboration in December 2024 with the World Green Building Council’s (WorldGBC) European Regional Network (ERN) to accelerate the adoption of sustainable, energy-efficient building practices across Europe. By leveraging cutting-edge electrification and automation technologies, ABB aims to support the decarbonization of Europe’s built environment and contribute to a more sustainable urban future.
A Collective Vision for a Greener Built Environment
The World Green Building Council plays a pivotal role in promoting sustainability in the construction sector, working alongside governments, businesses, and organizations to drive transformative change. Its European Regional Network, comprising over 20 Green Building Councils and nearly 5,000 members, actively works to minimize the environmental impact of buildings throughout their lifecycle. Notable initiatives include the #BuildingLife project, which develops an EU Roadmap for Whole Life Carbon (WLC) reduction, and the creation of 12 National Decarbonization Roadmaps tailored to specific country needs.
“With buildings accounting for around 30% of final energy consumption and 26% of global greenhouse gas emissions, the potential for positive change is significant,” said Mike Mustapha, President of ABB Electrification’s Smart Buildings Division.
“By collaborating with the World Green Building Council’s European network, ABB will share its expertise and work with like-minded organizations to create a future of smarter, more energy-efficient buildings that support resilient, inclusive communities.” Laura Pallares, Head of the Europe Regional Network (ERN) at WorldGBC, echoed this sentiment, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome ABB as a regional partner. Achieving net-zero emissions depends on strategic partnerships and shared commitments. Together, we can drive meaningful progress toward electrifying the built environment and ensuring a sustainable future.”
