In the picturesque setting of the Gold Coast, Australia, Li-Yu Lin has realized his dream of a fully automated home that seamlessly blends luxury and technology.
A Vision Comes to Life
“I wanted to build my own house because it was difficult to find a large enough home that could accommodate my family,” says Mr. Lin. With his dream home, he was able to create a perfect location that not only caters to his passion for fishing but also incorporates a smart home system designed to simplify life for his three-generation household.
“I spent a lot of time and energy on this home, and I love everything about it,” he said. “But the thing I love the most is the automation – it just makes life easier.”
Personalized Living Experience
With simple commands like “Good morning, Alexa,” the home responds by adjusting lighting, opening blinds, and even playing soft music to start the day. This level of personalization extends to various routines that enhance family life, making the home not just a place to live but a dynamic environment that adapts to its residents.
Scalable Technology for the Future
At the heart of this innovative home is ABB-free@home®, a cutting-edge smart home control system that integrates various functionalities such as lighting, heating, air conditioning, and door-entry into a single interface. The ABB-free@home® system is integrated with Samsung’s SmartThings platform, allowing Mr. Lin to manage not only home automation but also entertainment and appliances effortlessly via one single user interface.
“We worked with ABB, Samsung, and Harvey Norman Commercial Queensland to create a seamless system that removes the hassle of multiple apps and devices,” says Richard Potterton, Technical Director at Cube Automation. “It’s about more than just turning things on and off,” Richard adds.
“It’s about creating a living environment that responds to the homeowner’s needs, whether that’s adjusting lighting for a cozy evening or setting up energy-efficient routines.”
Helping residents take control of their energy
Beyond convenience, the automations in Mr Lin’s home enhance energy efficiency.
“Samsung SmartThings allows users to optimize appliance use with AI Energy Mode, which can, for example, schedule a washing machine to run only during off-peak hours,” she adds.
Mr. Lin has also invested in solar panels, further integrating renewable energy into his home. As he awaits his first energy bill, he anticipates significant savings thanks to his smart system’s ability to track and optimize usage.
