SPEC-KON® CRIMP TERMINALS (METRIC / IEC)
ABB's Spec-Kon crimp terminals provide a comprehensive metric/IEC solderless termination system to deliver fast, consistent and reliable connections across commercial, industrial and OEM wiring applications.
EASILY AND RELIABLY CONNECT YOUR WIRES.
A reliable electrical connection begins at the terminal. When a crimp is poorly made, whether from wire strand loss during insertion, barrel separation under compression or inadequate pullout resistance under load, the result is a fault that can compromise an entire system. The quality of the terminal, the precision of the tooling and the design of the barrel together determine whether a connection performs throughout the service life of the installation or becomes a source of failure.
ABB offers the Spec-Kon crimp terminal range as a complete metric/IEC solderless termination system built around four core design principles. The easy-entry chamfered barrel eliminates wire strand hang-up during insertion, ensuring that no strands are lost before compression and that the full cross-section of the conductor is captured within the barrel. Brazed seam and tubular barrel construction prevents barrel separation during the crimp process and increases wire pullout force and electrical reliability compared to butted seam alternatives. The double crimp option adds an extra copper sleeve within the barrel to provide additional conductivity and pullout strength for high vibration and heavy industrial environments. A wide range of insulation materials, terminal styles and dedicated crimping tools covering everything from ergonomic hand tools to pneumatic and hydraulic tools ensures that every application from light panel wiring to demanding OEM wire harness production can be addressed with the correct terminal and the correct tooling.
The Spec-Kon metric/IEC range covers wire sizes from 0.5 to 6.0 mm² and is compliant to IEC 60352-2, IEC 61210 and DIN 46237, 46228-4 and 46228-1, with UL and CSA compliance available for ferrule variants. Terminal styles include rings with DIN options, forks with DIN options, flat blade terminals, pin terminals, lipped blade terminals, male disconnects, female disconnects, fully insulated female disconnects, piggyback disconnects, bullet disconnects, butt splices, receptacle disconnects and bootlace ferrules in single and twin variants. Insulation materials include vinyl, nylon, polypropylene and non-insulated options, with heat shrink insulated variants also available, giving the installer the flexibility to match the terminal to the specific requirements of the application including moisture protection, short circuit prevention, dust exclusion and solid crimping resistance to vibration.
KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS

ABB's Spec-Kon crimp terminals are produced as part of a termination solutions portfolio that draws on more than 60 years of expertise in the design and manufacture of tool-applied solderless terminals and connectors. ABB offers a complete and coordinated system of Spec-Kon crimp terminals, dedicated crimping dies and ergonomic hand, pneumatic and hydraulic installation tools to ensure that every crimp produced in the field meets the mechanical and electrical performance requirements of the application.

Easy installation

Easy-entry chamfered barrel design eliminates wire strand hang-up and departure upon insertion, ensuring no conductor strands are lost before the crimp is applied and improving both electrical efficiency and resistance to mechanical strain, with color-coded insulator variants enabling quick and accurate wire size identification at a glance during installation.
Reliable

Brazed seam and tubular barrel construction prevents barrel separation during the crimp process and delivers higher wire pullout force and reduced risk of wire strand loss and electrical failure compared to butted seam construction, with the double crimp option adding an extra copper sleeve within the barrel for additional conductivity and pullout strength in high vibration and heavy industrial applications.
Corrosion-resistant

Electro-tin plated copper construction delivers corrosion resistance throughout the service life of the connection, maintaining contact integrity in environments where terminals are exposed to humidity, moisture and airborne contaminants in commercial, industrial and outdoor switchgear applications.
Vibration-resistant

Double crimp variants incorporate an extra copper sleeve within the barrel to ensure solid conductivity and pullout strength under sustained mechanical stress, making them the correct choice for high vibration applications in industrial machinery, rail vehicles, automotive wiring harnesses and any installation where vibration or shock loading is present throughout the service life.
Variety

The Spec-Kon metric/IEC range covers ring, fork, blade, pin, lipped blade, flat blade, male and female disconnect, piggyback disconnect, fully insulated disconnect, bullet, butt splice and receptacle disconnect terminal styles together with single and twin bootlace ferrules in non-insulated, vinyl-insulated, nylon-insulated, polypropylene and heat shrink insulated variants for wire sizes from 0.5 to 6.0 mm², with a complete range of dedicated hand, pneumatic and hydraulic crimping tools available for each terminal type.
Cost-effective

Solderless crimp termination requires a low level of operator skill to produce repeatable, high-quality connections and avoids the consumable costs and environmental compliance requirements associated with soldering, delivering a lower installed cost per connection across high-volume panel wiring, OEM wire harness production and field installation applications where large numbers of terminations are made each day.
Compliant

Certifications include IEC 60352-2 (ring, fork, pin, flat blade, male and female disconnect, lipped blade, bullet, butt splice and receptacle disconnect terminals), IEC 61210 (female disconnect variants), DIN 46237 (non-insulated terminals), DIN 46228-4 (insulated ferrules), DIN 46228-1 (non-insulated ferrules) and UL/CSA (ferrule variants).
INDUSTRIES WE SUPPORT
