Certified to IEC/BS EN 62561 and UL 96, each product in the range is designed to maintain the low resistance, high conductivity conductor path that is essential to effective lightning current dissipation throughout the system service life.

The conductor network is the critical link between the air termination and the earth termination in any external lightning protection system, and its performance depends entirely on the quality of the fixings, joints and connections used to hold it in place and maintain electrical continuity throughout the installation. Clips that work loose under wind loading, corrode at connection points or fail to provide adequate pull-off resistance can compromise the integrity of the entire lightning protection system, which is why every product in ABB's Furse conductor network accessories range is engineered to perform to the same exacting standards as the conductors themselves.

The range covers every functional category needed to complete a conductor network installation. Metallic conductor clips in copper and aluminium alloy, including swing lid DC tape clips in standard and adjustable formats for 25 x 3 mm to 50 x 6 mm flat tape, pressed tape clips, one hole cable clips for 8 mm solid circular conductor and stranded cable, are all certified to IEC/BS EN 62561-4 and selected variants to UL 96. Non-metallic conductor clips in UV-stabilised high grade polypropylene are available in a full range of colours including brown, black, grey, stone, white and dark grey for aesthetic integration with any roof or facade finish, and a dedicated dark grey conductor range including PVC covered tape and clips provides a consistent aesthetic for installations where appearance is a priority. Specialist clip types include self-adhesive tape clips and glue-down clips with adhesive disc for clay roof tile applications and heat weldable clips for polyethylene roofing membranes.

For specialist roof types, slate holdfasts with non-metallic tape clips and push-in clips allow conductors to be fixed through tiled roofs via the 500 mm tail without compromising the roof waterproofing. For conductor jointing, the range includes square tape clamps in copper and aluminium for 25 x 3 mm to 50 x 6 mm flat tape, crossover tape clamps, mini square clamps and tee clamps for 8 mm solid circular conductor, jointing clamps, test and junction clamps in copper and aluminium alloy, plate type test clamps, screwdown test clamps, test clamps for circular to tape connections, cable to tape square clamps for 25 x 3 mm tape to stranded cable from 50 mm² to 95 mm², cable to cable square clamps for stranded cable from 50 mm² to 95 mm², and stainless steel 316L bimetallic connectors in tape-to-tape, circular-to-circular and circular-to-tape configurations for connecting aluminium conductors to copper earthing conductors. An expansion braid bond accommodates thermal movement in conductor runs, and oxide inhibiting compound reduces the risk of corrosion at mechanical and compression joints. Down conductor protection is provided by a PVC protective guard in multiple colours and an anti-vandal galvanised steel guard, both in 3,000 mm lengths.

<p>Metallic conductor clips, clamps and holdfasts are manufactured from high quality copper and aluminium alloys rather than commercial brass, providing superior corrosion resistance and conductivity at exposed fixing points throughout the service life of the installation, while stainless steel 316L bimetallic connectors and stainless steel 304 holdfast bases for trapezoidal and standing seam systems provide high corrosion resistance at bimetallic interfaces and direct-contact cladding fixings.</p>

<p>Conductor clips fix using countersunk or roundhead wood screws and wall plugs with no specialist tooling required, tightening torques are specified for every clamp type to ensure correct clamped connection without over-tightening, trapezoidal holdfast assemblies are supplied complete with stitching screws, slate holdfasts use a 500 mm tail that fits between overlapping tiles without roof penetration, and glue-down and self-adhesive clips are supplied complete with adhesive for direct bonding to clay tiles.</p>

<p>Stainless steel 316L bimetallic connectors with A4 grade fixings provide a certified low resistance connection between aluminium lightning protection conductors and copper earthing conductors at the transition point between the conductor network and the earthing system, with a slotted mounting hole for positional adjustment during installation and a tightening torque of 12 Nm to ensure consistent, repeatable connection quality.</p>

Cost effective

<p>Expansion braid bonds accommodate the thermal movement in copper and aluminium conductor runs due to seasonal temperature variation, which for UK installations amounts to 0.76 mm per linear metre for copper and 1.03 mm per linear metre for aluminium across a typical annual temperature range, preventing conductor fatigue and joint stress that could otherwise require remedial work or conductor replacement over the life of the installation.</p>
